Jazz Improvisation Masterclass Series with pianist, Tommy Scott

About these events

In this masterclass, Tommy will give us a range of brilliant insights into jazz performance, explaining different approaches to playing and improvising. The ideas presented will be valuable not only to pianists, but to all instrumentalists, as he explores improvisational ideas and techniques. No matter what your level of experience, from beginner, to intermediate, to advanced, there will be a range of brilliant ideas which can be taken away and put into practice immediately.

There will be lots of demonstrations from Tommy at the piano, and also lots of opportunities for questions.

Before the masterclass, just download Zoom at https://zoom.us. It’s free and easy to use. We’d recommend you use Zoom on a computer, a laptop, a tablet or iPad. It’s possible to use Zoom on your smart phone, but the bigger the screen is, the better it is for this kind of masterclass.

Tommy will take a selection of songs, to demonstrate and explore ideas around modal playing, pentatonics, melodic minor modes, appoggiaturas, chromatic playing, how to play through changes modally, motivic development and many other ideas. With Zoom, you’ll get the opportunity to ask Tommy questions during the session. Our hope is that you will get some brand-new insights into ways of deepening your playing, giving you the ability to strengthen your own musical voice, and to enhance your practice and playing. All of this, plus we get to hear Tommy play some great piano!
